Bangkok hits you with sensory overload in the best way, a sprawling, humid metropolis where gilded temples sit beside gleaming malls and street stalls perfume the air. The Grand Palace and the neighboring Wat Pho, home to the giant reclining Buddha, anchor the historic riverside, while long-tail boats and ferries ply the Chao Phraya and its network of canals. It is chaotic, warm, and endlessly energetic.

The city rewards diving in. The backpacker hub of Khao San Road buzzes late into the night, the Sukhumvit corridor stacks rooftop bars and shopping above the Skytrain, and the food is a destination in itself, from legendary street carts to floating markets on the outskirts. A cooling escape into an air-conditioned mall or a riverside temple garden is never far away.

Bangkok is hot and tropical all year. The cool, dry season from November to February is the most comfortable time to visit, the hot season from March to May can be searing, and the monsoon months in between bring heavy afternoon downpours.
