About Seville

Seville is the soul of Andalusia, a sultry southern city of orange trees, tiled courtyards, and the click of flamenco heels. Its monuments are extraordinary, from the vast Gothic cathedral topped by the Giralda bell tower to the Real Alcázar, a fantasy of Moorish palaces and gardens. The semicircular grandeur of the Plaza de España, built for a world's fair, is a highlight in its own right.

Getting lost is part of the fun in the old Santa Cruz quarter, a whitewashed maze of narrow lanes, hidden plazas, and tucked-away tapas bars. Flamenco is not a tourist show here but a living tradition, best caught in an intimate venue after dark. The city's great festivals, Semana Santa and the springtime Feria de Abril, fill the streets with colour and ritual.

Seville is one of the hottest cities in Europe, and summer temperatures can be punishing at midday. Spring and fall are ideal for visiting, and the mild winters make it a strong warm-weather escape when much of the continent is cold.
